Description
At the age of seven I remember sitting and listening to my father play the piano. It was the first time I really became aware of Music. As my father played an old standard on my aunt’s little spinet, something very important began to happen within my body – I rose from the couch, and standing at my father’s Side, began to realize what a magical thing it was to play the piano. I felt an overwhelming sense of knowing that this musical voice was my voice.
And so, I became a pianist; then a composer, and a band leader. My musicalĀ· life has been filled with lessons, gigs, schooling, teaching and, above all, practice and composing. This CD is the result of years of experience and learning. Absorbing the great piano genius’ of Art Tatum, Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, McCoy Tyner, Thelonius Monk, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea has been a strong motivational tonic.
All musical experiences have been important in the development of my technique and musical style. To be unlike any others who have shaped this solo tradition has been my greatest challenge -to be true to my own musical voice.
My energy continues to come forth through the keyboard. It has truly become a part of my mind and musical spirit, creating for the listener an expression of great joy and love. It is my desire that those of you who listen to this marvelously recorded session will share in that joy and love of music.
